"Don't Count Me Out" Reading, Signing, & Talk:

Friday January 20th 6:30pm

Join us at Snug Books for a reading, signing, and honest talk around the recent release Don’t Count Me Out: A Baltimore Dope Fiend’s Miraculous Recovery.

Baltimore's own No Pix After Dark podcast is hosting the conversation with Don’t Count's author Rafael Alvarez, and Bruce White, the person at the center of this stunning story. Don’t Count Me Out chronicles Bruce’s life from the beginning of his drug use in elementary school through criminal acts fueled by his need for drugs, followed by his miraculous recovery three decades later and, finally, to Bruce’s current role as a leader in the addiction treatment and recovery field. A life-long Baltimorean, Rafael Alvarez is a columnist for, a former reporter for the Baltimore Sun’s City Desk, and screenwriter for “The Wire.”

Storytime with Wildlife Adventures:

This storytime was a huge hit! In the past children were able to pet a hedgehog, hold a snake, and meet a huge turtle while learning about the animals and reading a picture book. Children get to touch and hold animals during this lively event and pictures are encouraged. Wildlife Adventures is an educational outreach program dedicated to reaching audiences with environmental messages while providing a memorable and enriching experience for children of all ages. For more information visit:

Storytime with Port Discovery:

Join us for an interactive educational program from Port Discovery Children’s Museum designed to foster early literacy skills. Children participate in a variety of nursery rhyme activities using songs, puppets, books, and musical instruments to nurture speech and language development, motor coordination, self-confidence, and sensitivity to others. During their visit, Port Discovery will also provide a sensory play activity. To learn more about Port Discovery Children’s Museum visit:
