Events Manager and Bookseller, Part Time, Min 20 HR/ Week

Snug Books is hiring for an Events Manager and Bookseller who will work at both store locations. We are looking for someone who loves event management, working with lots of different people, loves reading, culture, Baltimore City, and giving customers a great experience. The job will mostly be at our Lauraville location with some time at our Port Discovery Location. Our Lauraville location was our first, we opened in fall of 2021 and offer books and gifts for all ages. Our Port Discovery location opened in spring of 2023 and is a combination bookstore and gift shop that serves the downtown area as well as PD visitors. Snug Books aims to celebrate a variety of reading tastes and genres and welcomes readers of all ages and backgrounds.


Job Outline:

This part-time position is an Events Manager first and a frontline sales floor position second. The Events Manager will be responsible for planning and executing Snug Books events programming, including author events, store events, and offsite events. They will work directly with publishers and authors to coordinate events and they will also be responsible for training other staff members to assist and/or run events in their absence. This part time position will work a minimum of 20 hours per week (3-4 days a week), the position is an hourly, non-exempt position that reports to the Store Manager. This position requires weekend and evening work, and travel to and from our second location, special events like book fairs, outdoor markets, or other bookstore events/locations. All staff are expected to participate in social media and assist in event hosting. Two monthly staff picks, learning about the books we carry, being able to make recommendations, and staying engaged and informed of Snug Books programming is expected. Booksellers should be self starting, active, organized, and have the ability to multitask. We ask that everyone acquaint themselves with the trends of the book world, including bestsellers and popular books, and learn how the book industry works. 


Currently, Snug Books in North East Baltimore is open Sunday through Thursday 10am-6pm and Friday & Saturday 9 am to 7pm. Snug Books at Port Discovery hours currently follow the museum's schedule which changes slightly with the season or special events. Hours are not likely to change significantly, but changes will be made seasonally, for Holidays, or for special events. 


Holidays: Both locations are always closed on July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.


Requirements: If an offer of employment is made, the candidate must take and pass a background check that allows them to work with children.


The Events Manager and Bookseller position is a part-time position and starting pay is $17/hr. Work week is typically Wednesday - Saturday. Shifts will include evenings and weekend shifts. Salary/ hourly wage is commensurate with experience, longevity, and additional assignments at the store. This position is being created to create new revenue streams and increase existing ones.

Bookseller & Book Club Leader, Part Time, Min 10 HR/ Week

Snug Books is hiring for a part time Bookseller and Book Club Leader who can work three days a week. The job will mostly be at our Lauraville location with some time at our Port Discovery Location. We are looking for booksellers who love reading, culture, Baltimore City, and giving customers a great experience. Snug Books aims to celebrate a variety of reading tastes and genres and welcomes readers of all ages and backgrounds.

This part-time position is a frontline sales floor position that includes assisting customers in the store to find books and complete purchases. They will also be responsible for managing and running our weekly Tuesday night book club meetings. This position will work a minimum of 10 hours a week, the position is an hourly, non-exempt position that reports to the Store Manager. This position requires weekend and evening work, and potentially travel to and from special events like book fairs, outdoor markets, or other bookstore events/locations. Staff are expected to participate in social media and assist in event hosting. One monthly staff pick, learning about the books we carry, being able to make recommendations, and staying engaged and informed of Snug Books programming is expected. Booksellers should be self starting, active, organized, and have the ability to multitask. Snug Books is hiring for a full time employee who can work 5 days a week. The job will be two thirds of the time at our Port Discovery location and one third of the time at our Lauraville location. Our Lauraville location was our first, we opened in fall of 2021 and offer books and gifts for all ages. Our Port Discovery location opened in spring of 2023 and is a combination bookstore and gift shop that serves the downtown area as well as PD visitors. We are looking for booksellers who love working with people and children, love reading, culture, Baltimore City, and giving customers a great experience. Snug Books aims to celebrate a variety of reading tastes and genres and welcomes readers of all ages and backgrounds.

This full-time position is a frontline sales floor position that includes assisting customers in the store to find books or merchandise and complete purchases. Applicants should be good with customers and children. This job also includes work to maintain the store and receive and display merchandise and books. This position will work a minimum of 32 hours a week, the position is an hourly, non-exempt position that reports to the Store Manager. This position requires weekend and evening work, hours and shifts will change with the seasons, and this position may require travel to and from special events like book fairs, outdoor markets, or other bookstore events/locations. Staff are expected to participate in social media and assist in event hosting. One monthly staff pick, learning about the books we carry, being able to make recommendations, and staying engaged and informed of Snug Books programming is expected. Booksellers should be self starting, active, organized, and have the ability to multitask.
